Thanks for the detailed follow up, Ryan, I really appreciate it.
I totally agree that the first priority is to get more scouts to the people who want them, possibly provide test jigs, too. More scouts have to be spread in order to further increase the popularity of the platform.
I get what you mean regarding support. Sure, it's an open source project that's already working but what if someone hits a bug deep in the stack? Will there be a developer to fix it? Given that currently no comany backs the platform I'm not so sure. Also, HQ is a super user-friendly interface that improves the value of the platform a lot, especially for beginners. Wiping it away decreases the value proposition quite a bit.
I'm also concerned about Pinoccio Mini. I was really excited about the possibility to use a Pinoccio Mini per light bulb but now it's questionable whether anything like this will ever be created. Would it be possible to release the current design of it?
The fact that the project is VC backed has definitely surprised me. I thought that it's a self started business not involving external monetary support apart from the IndieGogo campaign. Putting the VC mentality into perspective one can understand this decision given that VCs always go for a maximum return of their investment. Supporting a couple of huge companies means more bucks and less support than supporting thousands of individual customers.
All things considered, I'm happy that you plan to start your company based on Pinoccio. Entrepreneurs like you could breath life back into the project but I'm not sure how things will end up and right now I find it rather upsetting that Pinoccio Inc. choose to abandon the project at such an early stage.
From my perspective I didn't invest into 10 scouts. I invested into a thriving platform. I used to be one of the most vocal supporters of Pinoccio and at this point I still plan to play around with my scouts but I'm not sure whether I should consider Pinoccio as my IoT platform of choice given the current state of affairs and I surely won't advoce it any further until the above issues get resolved.
